EMS, fire rescue, law enforcement, public works and towing professionals regularly risk their lives when aiding crash victims and safely and quickly clearing motor vehicle crashes.
During Crash Responder Safety Week (CRSW), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recognizes the critical role of 911 telecommunicators and emergency medical services (EMS) in protecting the public and other responders after a traffic incident.
EMS Agencies & 911 Systems Can Raise Awareness:
Spread the word: Help reduce secondary crashes and save lives through public education and effective traffic incident management (TIM) practices that alert drivers and prepare them to react properly when encountering emergency scenes, including moving over and slowing down.
Take the National TIM Training Certificate Challenge: Encourage your agency, as well as your partners, to learn proper TIM procedures and earn a certificate. Set a participation goal and offer a reward if the goal is met. This certification, available from the Responder Safety Learning Network (RSLN), is available through a special agreement with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
