It’s 0200, you get “that call”… do you know what to do? When we experience low-frequency, high-consequence events in our industry, leaders can find themselves struggling to navigate what is often uncharted and challenging territory. Responding effectively to the complexities of high-impact events requires a multi-faceted, multi-disciplinary, comprehensive, and collaborative approach to maximize the potential for healthy recovery.

Training (LIFT) Institute
August 18-23, 2024
Oglebay National Training Center
Wheeling, West Virginia |
The Leadership Incident Fortification Training (LIFT) Institute is a brand new program for emergency medical transport providers, developed by the Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS) and the Oglebay National Training Center to provide air and ground leaders with a foundational skillset to effectively manage crises. Adverse clinical events, air and ground vehicle crashes, high-impact, sentinel events or other crises can make or break individuals and organizations. This institute aims to arm leaders with the tools and resources necessary to manage events in a way that minimizes damage and maximizes learning by addressing key concepts on the continuum from risk mitigation to preparation to response and recovery.Successful completion of the program will provide medical transport leaders with the foundational skills and resources to assist with:
- Increased Organizational Resiliency in the Face of High-Impact Events
Promotion of healthier individual and organizational recovery post-event.
- Increased Staff Engagement and Reduced Staff Turnover
Leaders prepared to manage high-impact events in a manner that is effective, empathetic and professional maximize their ability to retain staff and build trust.
- Maximizing Learning to Mitigate Future Risk
Creation of a culture of psychological safety to promote an environment conducive to learning and process improvement.
- Reduced Lost Operational Days
Leadership will have a clear response strategy in place that will address the needs of the people, the program, and the community in a clear concise manner, resulting in an effective return to service strategy.
- Reduced Risk of Legal Action
Leadership will have demonstrated advance preparation and response parameters that allow the organization to avoid missteps that generate legal risk.
- Reduced Short- and Long- Term Expense
Managing these incidents effectively may result in decreased short- and long-term costs for the organization.
Leaders who have experienced one or more incidents recognize that no incident is like another. Learning from the knowledge within the industry builds collective wisdom for the entire community; better preparing us for future incidents and helping us to better support our teams before, during, and after such incidents.LIFT graduates will carry the Leadership Incident Fortification Team-Certified or LIFT-C certification for 3 years.
PROGRAMThe program format is a 4-day on-site, immersive student experience (3.5 day working, half day team building/amenity) similar to AAMS’ Medical Transport Leadership Institute (MTLI) configuration with didactic, facilitated round tables (“cracker barrels”), written test, and simulation (tabletop exercises or capstone) sessions. |
